Cuomo hails cab plan
ALBANY — He’s out to be a cab-do chief executive.
Gov. Cuomo made it clear yesterday he wants to expand street-hail taxi service to the outer boroughs, and net the city $1 billion in the process.
“When you can find revenue without raising taxes, grab it,” Cuomo said on WOR Radio.
Just eight days ago, Cuomo said support for a bill to expand outer-borough hail service, including the sale of new medallions that could fetch $1 billion for the city, was “dissipating.”
But he told radio host John Gambling, “The bottom line on it is, we want to get it done.”
Mayor Bloomberg and the livery-car industry strongly support the bill, but yellow-cab owners fiercely oppose it — dividing legislative support.
