Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s pal and MTA board member Larry Schwartz broke down at an agency meeting Wednesday morning while revealing that he is suffering from a medical issue.
Schwartz asked the board — which was in the midst of talking about the proposed 2019 operating budget — for the favor of taking a vote after about an hour of discussion, instead of continuing the discussion.
“I have an important medical procedure that I have to have done, and I am already late for it,” said Schwartz.
“I don’t ask for this courtesy lightly,” continued Schwartz as he choked up. “Exposing myself publicly to a potential health issue that I’ve been dealing with is just going to get the press to be ringing the phone. I’m sorry if I’m getting emotional here.”
The $17 billion 2019 and four-year financial plan passed with nearly all board members voting in favor of it. Members Carl Weisbrod and Veronica Vanderpool abstained.
Schwartz didn’t reveal what his medical condition is.
