Money talks!
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has mounted a massive advertising blitz on New York City’s airways as he seeks re-election, records examined by The Post show.
Cuomo’s campaign has spent at least $3.8 million in advertising on local television stations and cable systems since late June, filings with the Federal Communications Commission show.
His campaign has spared little expense in the one-sided air war, including buying $9,000 30-second spots during Yankees games and $6,500 spots during Mets games on WPIX-TV, according to the filings.
His campaign also spent $65,000 in advertising on New York 1 in recent weeks.
That purchase is especially notable as Cuomo has twice attacked one of the station’s reporters in recent weeks for the alleged failings of NY1’s parent company, cable giant Charter Communications.
Cuomo’s opponent, Cynthia Nixon, has not purchased air time yet on any of New York’s major television stations.
She trails the two-term incumbent by a 2-1 margin in recent public polls.
However, Cuomo appears to be feeling some heat from her spirited, if-poll-challenged bid.
The Cuomo-controlled state Democratic Party announced Monday he would accept an offer from WCBS-TV to debate Nixon one-on-one on August 29.
