ALBANY — A longtime friendship with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed Matilda Cuomo, mother of Gov. Cuomo, a prized seat to hear Pope Francis’ address to Congress Thursday.

Matilda Cuomo’s was just one of six names and the only New Yorker on Pelosi’s guest list.

Earlier this year, when Gov. Cuomo announced that Pelosi had joined his campaign to combat campus sexual assaults, Cuomo said his dad was “a phenomenal fan of the leader for many, many years.”

When Pelosi — daughter of ex-Baltimore Mayor and Congressman Thomas D’Alesandro — was first elected to the House in 1987, then-New York Gov. Mario Cuomo called to congratulate Pelosi (D-Calif.) in Italian, sources said.
