The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has taken more than 400 guns off the street, with another 100 being turned in via buy-back events, DA Cyrus Vance Jr. announced yesterday, touting his Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit’s efforts in the face of rising gun violence.

Sentences are tough for those convicted of gun crimes, Vance warned. Albert Striegel, 20, was sentenced yesterday to nine years in prison for driving stolen firearms from western Pennsylvania to uptown Manhattan, where he sold six to undercover detectives.

Striegel’s co-defendant, Travis Matthews, 23, will be sentenced on Friday for selling 13 guns to undercovers. The duo burglarized gun owners in and around the Pittsburgh suburb of Ambridge, prosecutors said, targeting weapons that they would then transport east.
