Three dozen alleged housing and unemployment benefit cheats have been rounded up by the Manhattan DA’s office this week — charged with stealing a total $360,000.

The cheats lied about their incomes to collect undeserved unemployment checks and low-income housing subsidies from the city and state, prosecutors said today

Top cheat Carolyn Torres took $30,000 in housing benefits while failing to alert officials that her husband was gainfully employed by the MTA, prosecutors said.

“Our city and state are struggling to balance budgets while providing critical public services,” said DA Cyrus Vance. “These funds cannot be fraudulently siphoned away from New Yorkers who rightfully qualify for assistance.”

Vance credited the arrests to the joint work of prosecutors and investigators for the state Department of Labor and the city Department of Investigation.
