A desperate father was unable to save his 2-year-old son from drowning yesterday after the toddler fell into a pond at Heckscher Park in Huntingdon, LI.

The dad lost sight of the boy while talking on his cellphone, police said.

When the father realized his son was missing, he ran to a playground to look for him before finding him in the pond, police added.

The unidentified dad leaped into the water and tried to save the unconscious child, witnesses said.

“[The dad] was just screaming,” said Neil Bussye. “I saw him pull his son out of the water, and he just didn’t know what to do.’’
