An armed thief carjacked a livery car in East New York, getting away with the vehicle, cash and the driver’s phone and tablet. The suspect hailed the 2014 Toyota Camry livery cab on Atlantic Avenue near Cleveland Street at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, police said. The driver pulled over when he realized his passenger had a gun. The passenger demanded the keys to the car and told the driver to get out. The suspect then drove off. Investigators later found the car three miles away, on Macon Street and Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bed-Stuy.
The Bronx
A man burglarized a Hunts Point apartment, cops said. The suspect walked into the Bryant Avenue pad at about 11 a.m. Wednesday but he didn’t realize someone was home, said police. A victim, a 29-year-old man, heard a noise in the living room, said cops. When he went to look, the suspect ran off. The perp escaped with jewelry and an unknown amount of cash, police said. Surveillance video in the lobby photographed the suspect in the building lobby. He had a mountain bike, and wore gray shorts and a white top.
Queens
A thirsty crook was caught on video moments after he burglarized a Glendale apartment, cops said. The suspect allegedly forced his way into the basement apartment on Cooper Avenue and 60th Lane and swiped $1,300, cops said. He then fled up a flight of stairs that leads inside Daisy’s Deli & Grocery, where he bought a bottle of water and walked out. He was wearing a T-shirt with a large skull icon on it.
A 21-year-old man died Saturday in a car crash in Jamaica, police said. Lamont Smart Jr. was riding in his pal’s Range Rover eastbound on South Conduit Avenue near 177th Street at around 2:15 a.m., said cops. The Range Rover driver, 20, lost control and crashed into a car at 177th Street, cops said. Smart died at Jamaica Hospital. The Range Rover driver suffered minor injuries. The driver of the other car in the crash and two of her passengers suffered minor injuries, police said.
Staten Island
This suspect racked up $100 in charges at a Grasmere deli with a stolen credit card, police said. He used the stolen plastic to pay to go on a mini-shopping spree at the Save and Shop convenience store at Hylan Boulevard and Norway Avenue on Aug. 2. Surveillance video clearly shows the man using the card, police said.
