Police have arrested one of two men who allegedly killed a driver and wounded his passenger in Wakefield, authorities said. Jonathan Jay, 32, known on the street as Platinum, was arrested Thursday, cops said. The second suspect, Edmond “Slim” Sheldon, is still at large, investigators said. The driver, Lionel Samuel, 55, was fatally shot in the chest at Baychester and Schieffelin Avenues at about 6 a.m. on May 27. His passenger took a bullet to the leg.
A man stabbed a 23-year-old foe in Mott Haven, authorities said. The two men started arguing on East 134th Street when the suspect pulled a knife and stuck the blade into the foe’s arm at 3:40 a.m. Monday. The suspect was described as 30 years old, 5-foot-6 and 165 pounds.
Queens
A dog belonging to a panhandling couple attacked a young child outside the Queens Center Mall Friday, according to a witness. “I saw the dog on top of the child, and I saw the man hitting the dog,” said Ed Manfred, 68, of Elmhurst. “He was saying, ‘Get off, get off, stop, stop.’ But the dog was vicious.” The incident took place on Queens Boulevard at 1:30 p.m., according to Manfred, who said the victim looked to be about 2 years old. “The kid was screaming, then 10 minutes later he was calmed down by his mother. The dog bit his face where his nose is, and I saw a mark on his cheek. There was blood on his face,” Manfred said. FDNY paramedics confirmed that a child with dog bites was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition. The dog’s owners are panhandlers who have been a fixture at the mall for about a year, according to Manfred, who walks to the shopping center daily. “You walk in the mall right where the entrance is, they camp out there begging for money. The mall doesn’t make them leave,” he said. It wasn’t immediately known if charges were pending.
Cops arrested a suspect who walked up to an 11-year-old girl and touched her chest in Elmhurst, police said. On June 23 at 7:45 a.m., Jose Para, 35, approached the girl on Albion Avenue near Queens Boulevard, asked her age and grabbed her chest, cops said. “Do you go to middle school or high school?” he allegedly asked the child before telling her that he was 20 years old, according to a Criminal Court complaint. After the girl told him her age, he put his arm around her shoulder and grabbed her breast. The girl fled to her school and reported the incident to an administrator. Para was arrested and charged with first-degree sex abuse of a victim under 13 and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
Cops arrested a man after finding a stash of illegal fireworks in his South Ozone Park home, police said. Following an investigation, NYPD Sgt. Joseph Muir and Detective Nathaniel Tauber spotted fireworks in plain view in a building on 118th Street near 135th Avenue on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., cops said. During a search, they recovered more of the illegal wares. Twenty-six multishot fireworks, three variety packs, seven rolls of firecrackers, three packs of mortars, two packs of Roman candles and four multishot missiles were recovered, cops said. Kevin Isuardeen, 21, was charged with unlawful sale of fireworks, cops said.
Manhattan
A man was shot in both arms in Washington Heights but still managed to drive himself to the hospital, cops said. The 39-year-old victim was sitting in his car at 187th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue at about 11:55 p.m. Thursday when a man approached and started shooting, police said. The victim managed to drive himself to New YorkPresbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center, cops said. His injuries were non-life-threatening, police investigators said. Cops described the shooter as in his 20s who at the time of the shooting was wearing a black jacket.
Brooklyn
A man critically injured his girlfriend with a bullet to the head and then killed himself in the couple’s Bushwick apartment, authorities said Friday. Cops entered the blood-soaked home on Forrest Avenue near Bushwick Avenue after neighbors heard the gunshots and called 911 at about 10 p.m. Thursday. Keith Allen, 49, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head with a 9mm pistol lying nearby, sources said. Cops found his 35-year-old girlfriend barely alive with a bullet to the head. She was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital in critical but stable condition, authorities said.
