More than a year after the MTA banned booze ads on subways and buses, Mayor Bill de Blasio is following its lead.

The mayor announced Tuesday that alcohol ads would no longer be allowed on bus shelters, newsstands, phone booths and LinkNYC kiosks.

“There’s no doubt that far too many New Yorkers struggle with serious substance misuse issues, among them excessive drinking,” the mayor said in a statement.

“This order banning alcohol ads from city property reaffirms our commitment to health equity and our stand to protect the well-being of all New Yorkers.”

The ban takes effect immediately.

But existing ads will be allowed to remain in place until contracts expire.

In October 2017, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s board banned advertising of alcoholic beverages in stations and on subways and buses following an outcry from advocates who charged that the ads fueled underage drinking.

That ban took effect three months later.
