Mayor Bill de Blasio says he and his family had a great time during their “Weekend at Bernie’s.”
“We were planning to be in that part of the world, and it was really wonderful … just to spent time with him,” de Blasio told NY1 Monday, referring to the time he, his wife, Chirlane McCray, and their two kids spent at Sen. Bernie Sanders’ summer home on Lake Champlain in Vermont last weekend.
Hizzoner said he and his family had developed “a warm friendship” with the progressive former presidential candidate and his wife, Jane. The mayor also said he got the invite in early January when Sanders was in the city to preside over de Blasio’s second-term inauguration.
Prior to heading to Vermont, de Blasio spent most of last week vacationing with his family in Canada – that is with the exception of Thursday when the NYPD used a $3 million counterterrorism plane to shuttle him back and forth from Canada to the Big Apple for an event.
Hizzoner, who is in Quebec, briefly flew back to the Bronx for a memorial for slain Detective Miosotis Familia.
