A proposal to expand the police force by 1,000 cops was quickly shot down Wednesday by Mayor de Blasio, who said the city couldn’t afford the $100 million price tag.

“We are in a structural deficit and I am not in the business of adding to the deficit when I believe we can get the job done with the resources and personnel we now have,” de Blasio said during a visit to Albany.

The idea came from City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, a staunch mayoral ally.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton was lukewarm to expanding beyond 35,000 cops, saying he has other priorities.
