A Rikers Island jailbird appeared intent on heeding the message of an oddly timed Wednesday night tweet by Mayor de Blasio.
“Our message to anyone in jail: This is the last time we ever want to see you here. By August, all NYC inmates will get education & training,” Hizzoner tweeted at 10 p.m.
At the time of the mayor’s tweet, 24-year-old Naquan Hill, who had been locked up for burglary and other charges, was on the loose after he hopped on a barbed-wire fence, according to authorities.
Rikers was placed on lockdown before Hill was discovered by corrections officers on the island at around 2:30 a.m., according to police.
“It was a pre-scheduled, automated Tweet that went out,” explained de Blasio spokesman Eric Phillips. “Obviously it looked a little dissonant with what was happening at Rikers at that moment so a staff member took it down,” he told The Post.
