NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A member of a Coast Guard safety unit who was killed during training in Virginia was identified yesterday as Petty Officer 3rd Class Shaun Lin, 23, of Staten Island.

Lin fell off a ladder and into the James River Wednesday night while transferring from a 25-foot boat to the cutter Frank Drew.

A search team recovered the body on Thursday.

Lin, a three-year veteran of the Coast Guard, had been assigned to the Maritime Safety and Security Team.
