There’s a whale of a mess to clean up after a dead 15 foot marine mammal washed ashore near LaGuardia airport Thursday evening.

A US Coast Guard spokesperson confirmed the agency was informed about the dead whale in Flushing Bay at around 5 p.m., but did not respond, as it was already out of the water.

They notified the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as well as the Riverhead Marine and Wildlife Conservation which will take over the removal efforts.

A representative for the Port Authority stated the whale washed up in an area adjacent to Runway 13/31 and had no impact on airport operations.

It is unclear if the animal is the same one that was recently spotted off of Manhattan.

Experts said it was unusual for whales to be this far north this late in the season.
