Deadly crash in East Village
A Queens woman riding in a minivan was killed in a collision in the East Village yesterday in which both drivers claimed to have had the green light.
Jacqueline Franklin, 55, was in the vehicle on First Avenue at 6:15 a.m. when it collided with a cargo van at East Fourth Street.
“I heard the wheels screeching, then seconds later a loud crash,” said witness Ivan Marin, 31. “I could tell the passenger [in the minivan] was hurt — she was very still.”
Emergency personnel ripped the roof off the minivan to get to Franklin. She was rushed to Beth Israel hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7 a.m.
No charges were filed against either driver, who both told cops they did not run a red light.
