A Brooklyn college student was killed in a horrific crash last night when the driver of a speeding black BMW lost control and slammed into his minivan in Sheepshead Bay, cops said.
Jamal Iqbal, 23, was pronounced dead after the crash at about 11:45 p.m. on Ocean Parkway near Avenue X.
“His mom is in shock. She keeps saying, ‘My son! My son!’ ” said Azeem Ullah, 23, a longtime friend of Iqual’s.
The driver of the BMW M6, identified by cops as 26-year-old Beka Skhirtladze, lost control of his vehicle, and it struck the center divider, then crossed over into oncoming traffic, where it hit the Ford Windstar driven by Iqbal, authorities said.
Skhirtladze tonight was charged with vehicular manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and criminally negligent homicide due to reckless driving and speed violations, cop said, adding that he was driving 90 mph before the accident.
Skhirtladze and a 30-year-old passenger were both taken to Lutheran Medical Center after the accident for injuries they suffered in the crash.
Iqbal was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital.
Iqbal was born in Pakistan and was studying medicine at a Long Island university, Ullah said. He lived with his parents in Sheepshead Bay.
“I’m shocked,” Ullah said. “He was always there for everybody. I’ve known him for so long. He didn’t deserve that.”
