Death driver on cell
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A driver charged with fatally injuring a woman as she stepped off a city bus was talking on his cellphone at the time, authorities said.
Police say 41-one-year-old Michael Maddox of Newtown was charged Friday with negligent homicide, operating a vehicle under a suspended license and driving while using a cellphone.
The charges stem from an April 4 collision in which 74-year-old Christina Dejara of Bridgeport was struck as she stepped off a bus at a Bridgeport intersection.
She later died from her injuries.
