Ponce Funeral Homes was two days late in getting the body of 58-year-old Genaro Luna to the Dominican Republic last year, Ercilia Luna charges in a Brooklyn Supreme Court lawsuit.
Worse, she alleged, the casket was “leaking fluids” and his body was “badly decomposed and had changed to a color of black and [was] emanating foul odor.”
She had to nix the open-casket funeral she’d planned in Santiago, Luna claims in court papers filed against Ponce Funeral Homes.
A manager at Ponce Funeral Homes denied the allegations, and said they had not heard of any problems with the state of Genaro Luna’s remains.
They’d been working with the widow to resolve her complaint with American Airlines, which apparently botched the transfer of the casket during a connecting flight in Miami, manager David Martinez told The Post.
“I’m shocked, because we’ve been diligently working with her to assist her in this matter,” he said.
Luna’s casket and the air tray it was shipped in were in fine shape when it was sent to the airport, Martinez said, adding no airline would have accepted a damaged casket for shipping. Ercilia Luna is seeking unspecified damages.
