Some arriving flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark International Airport in New Jersey are experiencing more than 2 1/2 hour delays.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration said Saturday evening’s delays are being caused by “an external communications problem” that is affecting air traffic control facilities.

The agency says technicians are working to quickly resolve the issue.

Flights taking off from the airports were also being delayed more than hour.

Delays were also reported at LaGuardia, Long Island MacArthur, Westchester County and Teterboro airports
