The Democratic Socialists of America reached for the sky in a bid to crash Billy Joel’s house fundraiser Thursday night for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s re-election campaign.
As part of the protest organized by the Nassau County chapter of DSA, a plane flew over Joel’s estate in Oyster Bay carrying a banner that says, “No Mo Cuomo.”
“Between $7,500-a-plate fundraisers and his decision to keep Donald Trump’s money, Cuomo has shown us who his true constituents are: the mega-rich of New York,” said Matt Garczynski, a member of the Nassau County chapter of DSA.
“Real democracy means getting big money out of politics. We didn’t start the fire, but Cuomo keeps it burning,” add Garczynski, in a twist of Joel’s song, “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”
A source said lefty philanthropist Deborah Sagner paid for the stunt.
Dozens of anti-Trump activists protested outside the fundraiser.
Meanwhile during the event, host Joel introduced Cuomo as a “friend” and the godfather of his two young daughters, a source said.
“I’m not used to being an opening act,” Joel quipped.
“I usually don’t get involved in politics. But I do know about New York state because it’s my home,” he said, noting that he’s performed in all parts of the Empire State.
The “Piano Man” said Cuomo was a “solid” person who has “the right values.”
“I trust Andrew to get the right thing done for my family and yours. It’s not about politics for me,” Joel said.
