ALBANY — The state can’t afford a Senate Republican plan to cut taxes on small businesses, New York’s top Democrats said yesterday.

“We can’t afford anything right now,” Gov. Cuomo said.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) added, “At this point, we are not in a position to build in tax cuts that next year would require us to cut health care and education.”

Senate Republicans plan to approve their package, which they say would be worth $1.1 billion, next week. It would cut corporate taxes for small businesses by 20 percent.
