In his latest peace offering, Mayor Bloomberg invited the city’s top watchdog, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, as his guest for the Opening Day game this afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

De Blasio will be arriving late from another event but plans to join the mayor, an aide to the PA said.

The two are hardly best friends: de Blasio was among the most vocal opponents to the mayor’s extension of term limits in 2008, and has frequently trashed his homeless and education policies.

The mayor has repeatedly criticized the PA’s office, indicating it is a waste of taxpayer money – though he held that sentiment long before de Blasio was elected in November.

Bloomberg extended a similar olive branch to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand last month when he invited her to sit at his table at the annual, black-tie Inner Circle dinner in Manhattan. He had previously been cool to Gillibrand.
