‘Diamond $cam’ suit
A Diamond District jeweler was hit with a lawsuit yesterday alleging that he scammed more than $35 million worth of stones from an African mining company.
Deepak Kavadia of Nice Gems allegedly reneged on a deal to have 14 “rough-cut” sparklers cut, polished and certified by the Gemological Institute of America last year, the suit said.
The Manhattan federal-court filing says Kavadia has since ignored demands to return the “extremely unique” stones.
Kavadia’s lawyer, Michael Brucki, said “there’s absolutely no validity to the claims.”
