If there’s ever a sequel to “Training Day,” it should be about this guy.

A former police officer from New Jersey admitted in federal court Wednesday that he dealt drugs, stole evidence from crime scenes, and “viciously attacked” a hospital patient — all while on duty and in uniform, according to prosecutors.

Ruben McAusland, 26, was working for the Paterson Police Department when he committed the crimes between October 2017 and April 2018.

The ex-cop pleaded guilty Wednesday to drug possession with an intent to distribute and deprivation of civil rights under color of law. He was busted by FBI agents in late April during a federal probe.

“Police Officers take a solemn oath to uphold the law and to protect the public,” explained special agent in charge Gregory W. Ehrie of the Newark FBI field office.

“[McAusland] not only violated his pledge, but tarnished the reputation of all law enforcement by his grievous lawlessness.”

Several other Paterson cops have been accused of misconduct in recent months, but McAusland might just be the worst of the bunch.

In March, he and his partner — Roger Then, 29, of Paterson — allegedly attacked an attempted suicide victim at a local hospital and videotaped it for no apparent reason.

“McAusland first met the victim, who was in a wheelchair, in the hospital waiting room,” DOJ officials said. “McAusland admitted that during the encounter, he pushed the victim and punched him in the face. In addition, Then allegedly grabbed the victim by the neck and pushed him into the ground. Afterwards, the victim was taken to a hospital patient room.”

The pair waited for some time to pass, and then allegedly set upon the victim again inside his room.

“McAusland admitted that, while the victim was on his back in a hospital bed, he put on a pair of hospital gloves and violently struck the victim twice across the face,” officials said. “Then recorded on his cellphone.”

The victim suffered multiple injuries to his face — including a severe eye wound that required surgery, officials said.

McAusland is facing up to 10 years behind bars for the assault. Then, meanwhile, didn’t get charged until late last month.

McAusland had been on the force since 2014 before getting terminated after his arrest. It’s unclear when he began committing crimes while on duty. His first known drug transaction happened in October 2017, according to prosecutors.

The former lawman admitted Wednesday in court that he stole and dealt heroin, cocaine, crack and marijuana. Prosecutors said he would often use his squad car to peddle the drugs — and deliver them in full uniform.

“Between October 2017 and April 2018, McAusland sold various types and quantities of narcotics to an individual who was cooperating with law enforcement,” officials said.

On one occasion, the former cop sold 2 pounds of marijuana to the informant. He also gave him heroin pills, which were made to look like Percocet.

“McAusland’s conduct breached his duties as an officer of the law and violated the public trust,” US Attorney Craig Carpenito said in a statement. “He dealt drugs, stole from a crime scene, and viciously attacked an individual who contacted the Paterson Police Department rightfully expecting to receive assistance and protection from McAusland and his partner. The people of Paterson, and all of New Jersey, deserve better.”

McAusland will be facing up to 50 years in prison when he gets sentenced on Oct. 9. The ex-cop must also forfeit $13,650 — the amount of money he made on drug deals.

“My client is taking full responsibility for his conduct,” his lawyer, John Whipple, told the Paterson Press. “He’s embarrassed and ashamed that he violated his oath as a police officer.”
