Bernie Madoff is not a name you expect to hear an attorney-general candidate tout as part of his campaign — but Eric Schneiderman wants the world to know he’s got he support of the “Original Madoff Whistleblower.”

Harry Markopolos, the independent financial-fraud investigator who for nine years tried to tip the Securities & Exchange Commission to Madoff’s billion-dollar Ponzi scheme, endorsed Schneiderman yesterday.

In other offbeat endorsements, Staten Island GOP congressional candidate Michael Grimm, a former FBI agent, read a letter of support from “Jack Falcone,” a k a Joaquin “Jack” Garcia, who for two years worked undercover as a Gambino mobster.

An Associated Press poll out yesterday found that a surprising 47 percent of Dems think President Obama should be challenged in a 2012 primary.

The Dem candidate for Rhode Island governor who said Obama could “shove it” conceded yesterday he wishes he had not spoken as he did.

Frank Caprio said “I wish I had chosen different language,” and added that he respected the president’s decision not to make an endorsement in the race.
