The city’s Department of Correction has issued new strict social distancing rules for inmates in New York City jails, The Post has learned.
The guidelines limit the dayrooms to groups of 10 inmates for two-hour blocks and only four are allowed in the showers or bathroom at a time, according to a poster, which details the measures.
The social distancing poster, obtained by The Post, says inmates will not be infracted for flouting the rules and “officers are not to use force to enforce these measures.”
“These enhanced social distancing guidelines went into effect on April 15, and they build upon many other measures that were already in effect,” said Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Peter Thorne.
“We take the safety and wellbeing of everyone in our facilities with the utmost seriousness, and we will continue to seek ways to further reduce the risk of transmission.”
A corrections source mocked the move.
“So do they think prisoners are just going to do what they’re told? They’re not going to say “Go f—k yourself?” the source said.
The guidelines come as the DOC has a new plan for equipping its employees with PPE.
