Hat’s off to you, New York!
Timothy Cardinal Dolan paid tribute to New Yorkers Saturday morning during a special prayer service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral meant to celebrate his elevation a week ago to cardinal.
“I come from the town of St. Louis that boasts this Bud’s for you, but I say this morning, New York this hat’s for you,” Dolan said as he lifted his red biretta to the packed cathedral.
The pews were filled with invited guests including Gov. Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg, Sen. Chuck Schumer, and former mayors Ed Koch and David Dinkins.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott, Comptroller John Liu and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn were also at the service.
Dolan thanked the crowd for coming together for someone “who arrived three years ago as a rookie, not even aware the difference between corned beef and pastrami.”
The newly crowned prince of the church then invited the cathedral guests to join him for lunch at the Sheraton Hotel.
