WANTAGH, N.Y. — Donald Trump has lost another round in his quest to build a catering hall at Long Island’s Jones Beach.

After a midlevel appeals court affirmed a ruling denying Trump $500 million in damages for construction delays, another court has said the state can proceed with an appeal on a separate matter.

The latest decision allows the state to fight Trump’s plans to build a basement at the catering hall at the Long Island landmark. Opponents say no basement should be allowed because it would lie in a flood zone, only hundreds of yards from the Atlantic Ocean.

Trump claims the state signed a lease for the project without complaining about the basement. The fight over the basement now goes to the state’s highest court.
