Don’t weed me out: suit
The “Weed Man” of Times Square wants cops to stop harshing his mellow.
Joshua Long — who drums up donations with a sign saying “Help! I Need Money For Weed!” — sued the city yesterday over his repeated arrests at the Crossroads of the World.
The panhandler from Brooklyn says that while he’s careful not to break any laws, his First Amendment right to “peacefully” hold his sign is routinely violated with charges of “allegedly illegal conduct.”
His Manhattan federal court filing seeks unspecified money damages and a court order barring cops from telling him to “move along” or arresting him without “probable cause.”
A spokeswoman for the city Law Department said it’s waiting to see the legal papers.
