Douglas Kennedy today dodged the witness stand at his trial on harassment and child-endangerment charges, instead letting his lawyer do the talking for him as both sides gave closing arguments.
Robert Gottlieb, lawyer for the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., told the judge in Mt. Kisco town court that the two nurses who accused his client of roughing them up only filed charges “ to line their pockets.”
Kennedy, 45, faces up to a year in jail for allegedly kicking one nurse and twisting the arm of another as they tried to stop him from taking his newborn son outside for fresh air Jan. 7 at Northern Westchester Hospital.
Prosecutor Amy Puerto argued that Kennedy thought he was above the rules by trying to take his 2-day old son Bo without permission.
But Gottlieb said Kennedy was only defending himself and that the nurses are simply laying the groundwork for a civil suit against his client.
