A drag racer being chased by police crashed his car and injured a cop early Tuesday in Queens, authorities said.
Juan Ramirez, 24, was speeding down the Nassau Expressway near JFK Airport at more than 100 miles per hour while racing another driver, at around 3 a.m.
The officers spotted the wannabe Mario Andrettis, observing both cars erratically changing lanes and blowing through stop signs, cops said.
Ramirez tried to lose the cops by pulling onto a side street, but crashed his car into a fence in an industrial section of Springfield Gardens at 183rd Street and 149th Avenue, police said.
When one of the cops got out of his vehicle to approach Ramirez’s smashed 1992 Honda Civic, the driver threw the car into reverse and clipped the officer, injuring his arm and one of his legs.
The officers still managed to arrest Ramirez and charged him with more than 20 offenses, including assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, officials said.
Police added that Ramirez did not have insurance and said the vehicle’s interior had been stripped down, as is common with cars used solely for drag racing.
The driver Ramirez was racing is still at large. A description of that person’s vehicle was not immediately available.
