A Long Island Rail Road train plowed into a car in Patchogue Tuesday, severely injuring the driver, authorities said.

The driver may have been trying to cross the tracks at Rider Avenue just east of the Patchogue station at 12:08 p.m. when the vehicle became stuck between the two warning gates, according to a source.

The 11:26 a.m. train out Babylon was headed east toward Speonk with 13 passengers on board when it struck the car at slow speed and pushed it several yards down the track, according to the MTA.

No passengers were injured and the train did not come off the track, according to an MTA spokeswoman.

The driver was taken to Brookhaven Hospital with serious injuries, authorities said.
