Drug cop faces lying rap
An NYPD narcotics detective was charged with perjury yesterday for allegedly lying to a Bronx grand jury and a judge about cocaine sales that never happened.
Detective Francisco Payano falsely told the grand jury in March 2009 that he had witnessed multiple crack sales by Omar Tawdeen in a Bronx building lobby, the Bronx DA said.
Payano repeated those lies at probable-cause hearings, the DA said.
When Tawdeen’s lawyer produced a surveillance video disproving the claims, Tawdeen was freed, the DA said.
