One man was killed and another arrested on drunken-driving and manslaughter charges after he lost control of his car and smashed into a utility pole in Huguenot, police said

Christopher Garfman, 39, was driving along Huguenot Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. yesterday when he veered off the road and smashed into a tree and then the utility pole at Drumgoole Road East, police said.

His passenger, David Zimmer, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Garfman was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was treated for minor injuries, police said.

Garfman was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of marijuana, said a spokesman for DA Daniel Donovan.
