An alleged drunken driver fell asleep at the wheel, snarling traffic at the Holland Tunnel’s exit into New Jersey, police said Sunday.

East Orange, NJ, resident Robert D. Tume-Ponce’s alleged snooze caused the jam around 2 a.m. Saturday at Grove and 14th streets in Jersey City.

In investigating the cause of the tie-up, Port Authority cop Christopher Hooper found Tume-Ponce, 48, sleeping at the wheel of his 2003 Ford Explorer — with the motor running, the car in gear and an open bottle of wine on the floor of the passenger side, officials said.

Tume-Ponce failed a field sobriety test and blew a blood-alcohol level two times the legal limit, police said.

He was charged with DWI, open alcoholic beverage, and delaying traffic and creating risk of an accident.
