A drunk man leaving a Chelsea hotspot mistook an SUV for a cab then passed out in the back — and was robbed of his wallet, Rolex and iPhone by the opportunistic driver, cops said Friday.
The hammered 25-year-old hopped into the black Suburban outside of the hip seafood restaurant Catch NYC on Ninth Avenue near West 14th Street at around 3 a.m. on Sept. 15, police said.
The half-cocked man handed the driver $20 and ordered him to take him home but the “cabby” first stopped to pickup a friend, he told police.
The passenger, who was in and out of consciousness, zonked out midway through the journey — and awoke at NYU Hospital at 5:30 a.m. to find his wallet, iPhone and Rolex watch missing, according to cops.
The driver was later captured in surveillance camera footage trying to use the man’s credit card at a Foot Locker and a Zales jewelry store in Brooklyn, police said.
Cops are investigating whether the victim was drugged and if the driver works for a ride-share company.
