LOS ANGELES — The Post was front and center at a pretrial hearing in the Robert Durst murder case Tuesday, as the ex-NYPD detective who investigated the disappearance of the real estate tycoon’s wife was quizzed on tabloid headlines.

“It’s bulls–t. I couldn’t think of a better synonym,” snarled Mike Struk as a defense attorney held up a September article reading: “Lawsuit claims NYPD covered up Durst’s role in wife’s death.”
The lawsuit in question accused Struk and the NYPD of colluding to hide the role Durst — who was infamously caught confessing how he “killed them all” in HBO documentary “The Jinx” — played in wife Kathleen’s 1982 disappearance.
Struk approved of the next Post headline more: “Ex Cop who led Durst investigation: ‘The Jinx’ made me look like an idiot.”
“You gave two lengthy interviews to the producers voluntarily. Do you think they treated you fairly in the editing process of those interviews,” defense attorney Dick DeGuerin asked him.
Struk responded that he thought “part of it was inappropriate.”
That headline came from an iratre email Stuk sent to the series’ producer Andrew Jarecki, accusing the filmmakers of portraying him as having bungled the case.
Durst’s attorneys also think the billionaire was unfairly portrayed in the 2015 docu-series, which spurred his arrest in the murder of his friend Susan Berman.
Prosecutors believe that Durst shot Berman because she was about to come clean about how she helped him cover up Kathleen’s death.
Durst has never been named as a suspect in Kathleen’s disappearance. She has never been found, but her family has long claimed Struk didn’t try hard enough.
Struk on Tuesday denied any cover-up and said he did his “level best.”
He — and all witnesses over 65 years of age — are giving early testimony due to concerns they might die before the actual trial begins at least a year from now.
