A drunken driver got a slap on the wrist from a Queens judge yesterday for drunkenly slamming his car into a 6-year-old girl who later died from her injuries.
Kent Lowrie, 53, of Jamaica, was sentenced to five years’ probation. He had pleaded guilty last month to the vehicular manslaughter of Zhaneya Smith, who darted into the street toward an ice-cream truck and was struck by Lowrie’s car last June 28.
“Some nights, I cry myself to sleep,” said Zhaneya’s grieving grandmother, Viola Smith, in a statement read by the prosecutor. “It hurts my heart to know that she and her sister won’t grow old together.”
