An 89-year-old man drove his car into a trench, overturning his vehicle, but miraculously suffered only minor injuries, according to authorities.
The victimPaul MartinkaOfficers received a 911 call shortly after 11 a.m. for an elderly man who drove around a barricade and into a 6-foot-deep trench near Bedford Avenue and Avenue V, according to police and FDNY spokespersons.
The octogenarian told police he hit a pothole, causing him to lose control and careen into a construction site, landing in the trench.
Photos from the scene of the Sheepshead Bay crash show the sedan upside down in the rectangular hole, as first responders surround it.
The man was taken to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, an FDNY spokesman said.
