An elderly homeless man was killed while crossing a Chelsea street early Tuesday, and police arrested the truck driver who hit him for driving on a suspended license, officials said.
The 73-year-old man was walking across the intersection of Seventh Ave. and W. 25th St. when a tractor-trailer struck him around 5:45 a.m.
The man suffered severe head and body trauma and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he died.
His identity has not been released.
The driver, identified as 60-year-old Sydney Jones, remained at the scene.
He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle when police learned his license was suspended.
