An Upper East Side man was fatally struck by a car while walking his dog near his home, police said Friday morning.

Irwin Cohen, 84, was walking his dog around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a Chevy Suburban while he was crossing East 72nd Street near Third Avenue, police said.

Cohen, who lives only feet from where the accident happened, was rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition, but could not be saved.

The 58-year-old driver remained at the scene and was not charged.
