An elderly Upper East Side woman confronted the sicko who tried to rape her on the East River promenade, telling him in court today, “I wish you no mercy.”

“August 15, 2010 is my day of infamy,” the brave 73-year-old told Justice Bonnie Wittner of the savage attack against her by Kentrel Whitaker.

The woman, whose name is being withheld because of the nature of the attack, was out for her morning walk along the East River near 111th Street when Whitaker, 33, attacked her from behind.

“I’ll never forget the feeling of horror as your arms encircled me,” she told the ex-con, who would not look at her.

Prosecutors said he knocked the woman to the ground and repeatedly punched her in the face in a secluded area near the FDR Drive. He then pulled down her underwear and tried to rape her, but was frightened off by a good Samaritan.

Investigators were able to track him down using DNA they found the on the woman’s underwear.

Whitaker, who has a felony drug sale conviction on his rap sheet, didn’t apologize. “I was out of it, wasted,” he said. “I don’t know what happened.”

Wittner didn’t buy his story, noting that he’d seemingly planned the “vicious, brutal attack.”

In an unusual move, the judge sentenced Whitaker to consecutive terms for the attempted rape and assault, because while the charges were “arising out of one incident, they are separate acts.” That means he’ll be behind bars for 22 years, not the 15 the attempted rape conviction would have netted him on its own.

His lawyer said he plans to appeal.
