An elderly woman is in critical condition after being struck by a garbage truck in East Midtown, authorities said.

The woman was crossing the street near the intersection of Third Avenue and East 58th Street when the truck ran her over around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver continued on for about two blocks before someone flagged him down and told him he had just struck someone.

The driver turned around and returned to the scene. The woman was taken an area hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The driver has not been charged. The investigation is ongoing.
