A gun battle erupted on a Bronx street in the early afternoon Wednesday — leaving an elderly woman and a young man injured, cops and sources said.

The woman, 79, and a 26-year-old man were each shot in their left leg around 1:20 p.m. at University Avenue and West 183rd Street in University Heights, police said.

The wounded man appeared to have been exchanging gunfire with someone else when the innocent senior was caught in the crossfire, law enforcement sources said.

Both victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, authorities said.

Police are looking for two men who fled on foot after the brazen daytime violence, the sources said.

Rashad, who lives nearby, heard the shooting and as he was “walking down the block.”

“I just kept walking and kept my head down,” he continued.

“I’m just glad it wasn’t me — that sh-t crazy.”

When he learned the age of the victim, he told The Post that “to recover from a bullet at that age is crazy.”

“These shootings, they just happen,” he added, “we don’t know what they be happening for.”

“They happen in an instant.”
