State officials last night pulled a controversial proposal to modernize the crumbling Brooklyn-Queens Expressway that would have razed some 30 to 50 buildings along the pricey waterfront — including multimillion-dollar historic brownstones in Brooklyn Heights.

The Transportation Department said the plan to use eminent domain “isn’t a viable option” because 300 to 400 residential units would be lost.
