Congratulations to the @Patriots and the @Eagles, The AFC and NFC Champions! In honor of their upcoming trip to the big game our lights are now shining in their colors. Who will you be cheering for on February 4th? ๐Ÿˆ pic.twitter.com/IsDZLLbrmG

The Empire State building became the biggest middle finger ever for New York sports fans, when it inexplicably lighted up Sunday to glorify two of the Big Appleโ€™s most hated sports rivals.
New Yorkers were left shaking their heads in disgust as they watched the iconic tower bathed in the green-and-white of the Philadelphia Eagles and the red-white-and-blue of the New England Patriots after each team won berths to Super Bowl LII.
โ€œItโ€™s scarring to see the colors of the Eagles and Patriots in Midtown,โ€ Jake Frum, 23, from Brooklyn fumed.
Tom Kinney, 20, from the Bronx, was even more blunt: โ€œFโ€“k the Empire State Building.. . Boston or Philly can have the Empire State Building, I feel burned.โ€

The operators of the building poured salt in the wound on Twitter by posting a picture of the Eagles/Pats light scheme and offering their congratulations to the two despised teams.
โ€œWhoever controls this lighting should be fired immediately and made to leave the state,โ€ Twitter user @CSant22 responded.
The decision to honor the most bitter rivals of both the New York Jets and Giants comes from a building that got criticism for declining to honor Mother Theresa on the 100th anniversary of her birth in 2010.
Representatives for the building did not respond to a request for comment.
