Hizzoner thinks the Mets will finally step up to the plate!
Mayor Eric Adams predicted Friday that the city’s long-beleaguered baseball team will emerge from “purgatory” and make it to the World Series this year.
“Listen, I have been in purgatory for many years as a Mets fan. I think this is the year,” Adams said at a press conference.
Despite the Mets’ loss to the Atlanta Braves Sunday, Adams believes the team — which hasn’t won a World Series since 1986 — will receive a dose of good luck now that he’s the Big Apple’s new mayor.
“We, for some reason, we can’t get over Atlanta, you know, but I’m excited about this year. I think I brought some good energy to the city,” Adams said.
“Mayor Bloomberg talked about we never had a championship in the last eight years. Year one, I think we got a ring,” Adams said, referencing the team’s record.

The Mets won their 101st game of the season on Wednesday and were tied for first place with the Braves in the National League East. The Queens team’s last postseason run came in 2016 when they lost to the San Francisco Giants in the National League Wild Card game.
The Amazins are set to host a three-game Wild Card series against the Padres starting Friday evening.
On Friday, Hizzoner predicted the Mets would knock it out of the ballpark this year as an aside during a press conference in which he declared a state of emergency in New York City over the migrant crisis.
