A work crew erected scaffolding Tuesday night outside the Midtown building where a prominent architect was killed by a piece of falling facade.
About a dozen workers were in the process of piecing together the metal scaffolding on the sidewalk in front the building at the corner of 49th Street and 7th Avenue at about 9 p.m.
A piece of the building came loose around 10:45 a.m. and fatally struck Erica Tishman, 60, who was about a 10 minute walk away from the Zubatkin project-management, where she was vice president, according to the firm’s website.
Born Erica Lindenbaum, Tishman married financial analyst Steven Tishman on June 20, 1982, according to the couple’s wedding announcement in the New York Times. She was the granddaughter of Abraham Lindenbaum, former president of Brooklyn Law School.
City building records show that the property — 729 7th Avenue — was cited in April for “failure to maintain exterior building facade and appurtenances.”
The company building the scaffolding, Everest Scaffolding, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
