ALBION, NY — Gov. Cuomo said crews will work around the clock to repair a section of wall along the Erie Canal that partially collapsed, forcing the state to shut down a 25-mile stretch of the waterway in western New York.
Cuomo spoke Thursday during a stop in Albion, where a sinkhole emerged late Monday night on a road alongside the canal.
State Canal Corporation officials said they believe cracks in an underground concrete retaining wall allowed water to wash out the bottom of the road, resulting in the partial collapse of the canal wall.
